FAQ

What is included in a book edit?

This varies depending on which service you require. You will get the most detailed report from a Stylistic edit, but upon request I will give each author an overview of points in the novel I feel need to be addressed.

How much does it cost?

Again, this varies. I've based my fees on the suggested rates from the Editors' Association of Canada. For freelance editors, the range is generally from $20 - $60 per hour. I won't lie and say my time isn't valuable, but I also won't pretend to be an expert at this point. I've used the lowest price point in that range to determine my price per word. As I gain more experience and credentials, my rate will eventually increase. In the meantime, I'm essentially charging $20 per hour which is on par with other freelance editors with a focus on indie authors.

How long does it take?

While it would be nice to have this as my full-time job, I have one already and so my time will be split. How long it takes for me to review your novel depending on a few variables: 1) the length of your novel, 2) how much work your novel needs, 3) how long it takes for the contract to be signed and received, and the receipt of payments. If ever a situation comes up that means the editing will take longer than expected, I will let you know. My goal for novels is four weeks.

What do you need from me?

I will need your absolute co-operation. I need to know that you will be open to my sugggestions, and if you ever disagree with a point that you will bring it up with me so we can discuss it. I want you to feel comfortable enough to bring up points you feel are incorrect. We are a team, and together we will introduce an incredible novel to the world.
